4 Ways to Add 'Pow" to Your Powder Room

Powder rooms are great spaces for experimenting with color and design. The small rooms can make a big impact with the right details in place, creating bathrooms that will impress both family and guests. Here are 4 great ways to add that “pow” to your powder room.

1. Create Statement Walls

In such a small space, you can really make an impact with the walls. Experiment with bold and bright colors that you’ve always wanted to try. Or find a wallpaper that’s gorgeous and inventive. I love to use wallpaper in powder rooms to elevate the design, like in the coastal bath I created above.

2. Form & Function

The functional items in a powder room can also be beautiful. Look for shapely toilets that offer extras like a wave-over flush or a tankless design. Sinks have so many lovely options today, too, both in material, shape, size, and color. The mixed metal sink above is part of my collection with Thompson Traders. I love how the sheen of the metal coordinates with the gorgeous colors in the wallpaper.

3. Find the Light

This is also the perfect room for incredible light fixtures that really stand out. Look for sconces and pendants that are fun or funky, stunning or stately. It’s most flattering to have light on each side of the mirror in a bathroom, but sometimes the small space means that you need to hang light over the mirror, too. No matter where you put the light, be sure the source is something really special.

4. Add Personality

I like quirky or unique items that you can’t find just anywhere. So when I saw the original sink in the powder room above, I knew we had to keep it because we would never find anything like it in any other bathroom. Look for those distinctive things that will give your powder bath its own personality. It could be a gorgeous mirror, an original piece of art, or vintage faucets. But think out of the box for this room.
