My Favorite Before-and-After Projects

I see the interiors of a lot of houses that need a renovation or redesign. And there is nothing more gratifying than when I complete a transformation and the client loves what my team and I have done. But some before-and-after makeovers are better than others, whether it’s turning a dated space into a dazzling interior, or making a blank canvas into a work of art. Here are my 4 favorite room redos (so far!).

The Tale of Tile

BEFORE

Wow - this bathroom had a lot of tile. And not good tile, either. It was incredibly dated, with shelves that were almost impossible to reach. Everything looked haphazard and added-on, rather than thoughtfully planned. And, it was a dark space, despite having a window right over the tub.

AFTER

I love it when our clients trust me to give them a room they’ve always dreamed about! My vision was for a bathroom that was zen and organic, with lots of natural materials. It’s such a calming space now, with spa-like details that include a custom tub by Thompson Traders. This was a dramatic renovation!

Lighten Up

BEFORE

Many of our clients come to us with homes that are more like blah boxes - there really isn’t any design at all. That’s what the “before” of this bedroom was like. It needed some style and some light.

AFTER

I gave them a room that’s both sophisticated and welcoming. The palette is incredibly soothing, and it’s a perfect space to welcome my clients home at the end of a long day. That bed is almost irresistible - it would be hard to leave in the morning! And, as an added bonus, I used a desk as one of the bedside tables to add more function to this lovely space.

Chaotic to Calm

BEFORE

There was a lot going on in the room above, from the overly ornate fireplace to the faux Juliet balcony, to the mix of Mediterranean carvings and colors. It was a bit of Tuscan chaos and our clients wanted calm. I love using color, but I always design for my clients first and foremost. So when they asked for neutrals, I delivered.

AFTER

The finished look is a soft and tranquil space with a palette of greys and neutrals. I think that fireplace renovation is one of my favorites that I’ve ever done. And look how incredible those built-ins look after a more sophisticated paint job.

Mid-Century Makeover

BEFORE

I will admit that one of my favorite makeovers was of the principal bathroom in my own house. Even though the look was charming in our mid-century house, the function of this room was anything but. That shower was poky and dark, there wasn’t enough room at the sink for me and my husband, and I wanted more modern plumbing and fixtures.

AFTER

We expanded the footprint of this room and gave it a more streamlined look. It is modern, but it still fits the design of my home overall. Every morning when I go into this space to get ready for my day, I love the functionality and the light. It’s such a beautiful room!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this tour of my top 4 design makeovers! Do you have a room in your house that is dated, dark, or dreary? Give me and my team a call! As you can see, we live to transform them into spaces you’ll love.

All the best,
