4 Pro Tips for a Magazine-Worthy Kitchen

There are good kitchens and then there are kitchens worthy of a feature in a home magazine. Those are the ones with a professional design and details that set the rooms apart from others. There are a lot of design ideas that can create that wow-worthy kitchen, but here are four of my top pro tips that will definitely take your kitchen to the next design level.

1. Straight to the Top

Be sure your cabinetry reaches all the way to the ceiling. That’s a detail that gives your kitchen a more polished and custom look. No one needs that dusty shelf above the cabinets, and you definitely want as much storage inside those doors as you can get. This design idea also makes your kitchen look taller and more spacious - that’s a win-win.

2. Custom Range Hood

A range hood draws the eye in a kitchen because it’s large and it is right about at eye level. So be sure it’s worth more than one look. In the kitchen above, I used a gorgeous mixed metal hood from my Quintana Collection for Thompson Traders. The subtle glow from this design is a stunning look that makes the hood the star of the kitchen.

3. Panel Fronts

Cabinetry panels on your refrigerator and dishwasher definitely give you a pro look in the kitchen. It’s a seamless design that ties the room together. The fridge in the room I designed above is hard to detect at first glance, and it almost looks like a pantry rather than a major appliance.

4. Statement Lighting

Task lighting over an island is a must, but even though it’s a functional detail, there’s no reason for it to be utilitarian. Look for statement pendants that have a lot of personality. They’ll definitely add an artistic element to your kitchen’s decor.
