4 Must-Haves for Cozy Reading Nooks

It’s fall - the perfect time to curl up in a cozy corner with a book or a magazine. Escaping with a book is one of my favorite ways to wind down and destress, and I love creating quiet spots in my clients’ homes for reading. Here are the 4 things every “book nook” needs:

A Comfortable Seat

This may seem obvious, but comfort means different things to different people. For some, a more firmly upholstered chair may be just the thing. For others, a fluffy and soft sofa would be the perfect seat. Whatever your comfort level, find a quiet corner in your home for your choice of a chair, sofa, or settee.

Lots of Light

The right light can make all the difference in your reading experience. Even with Kindles and iPads, you need to have good lighting so your eyes aren’t strained. Natural light is fantastic during the day, so having your reading nook near a window is key. I also place good table lamps or task lamps nearby for evening reading.

Under Foot

An ottoman or low bench also makes the most of a reading nook. Putting your feet up will make you more comfortable - which means you can spend even more time in your favorite reading seat! I love the large cocktail ottoman above because it does double-duty in this family room.

A Kid’s Corner

Don’t forget the younger members of your household, too! Reading for pleasure is something I’m so glad my own children enjoy. Be sure you give them great reading corners of their own, like the daybed above. With the pillows and upholstered back, this spot is perfect for enjoying a favorite book.

In each home I design, I love to create areas that are designed to support what each family member loves to do. That can be crafting, reading, gaming, cooking, and more. Need a home that helps you enjoy your own hobbies and activities? Give me a call!

All the best,

Kara
