4 Ways to Fill a Corner

Some homes, especially older ones, can have those quirky spaces that are hard to design around or corners that are a challenge to fill. I like architectural problems like those - they fire up my creativity. So here are my 4 chic ways to fill a corner in your home!

1. Custom Seating

When you have a long odd shaped room with a back corner that needs to be filled, a banquette can provide additional seating or overflow space for secondary dining for a dinner party. I created the seat above in my client’s home and it’s a terrific place for coffee or conversation.

2. Create a Vignette

In the entry for a lot of traditional homes, there’s usually a small corner or nook right at the base of the stairs and people struggle with a way to fill the space in an attractive way. The best way to make a statement is with three key components: a seat, a surface, and a lamp. The seat is a great place to change your shoes, the surface (a table or chest) lets you drop your keys and mail as you walk in the door, and the lamp lights your way as you come home at night. Just scale your pieces based on the amount of square footage you have. You can also accessorize with books, art, and flowers to add some personality.

3. Create a Workspace

A corner is actually the perfect place for your workspace. It gives you just enough room for your laptop or monitor, and room for storage or shelves on either side. It’s a very efficient set-up for a home office because everything is in reach. We created custom cabinetry in the home above to house a printer, scanner, file folders, paper, and more.

4. Use a Sectional

Sectionals were made for corners - literally. I have one in my own home because they are perfect for curling up with the whole family. You can choose a left-hand extension or a right-hand, a chaise or a loveseat, or even a sectional that’s the same-sized sofa on both sides. That also helps you get a custom fit for whatever room you’re trying to fill.

Consider these corner solutions for those awkward spaces in your house. And if you need more help, contact my team to set up a call!

All the best,
