Using Pink in Your Home's Decor

Pink is a controversial color, which is strange because it’s such a peaceful hue. But too many associate it with an overly sweet or feminine attitude. And of course it can be soft, but it doesn’t have to be saccharine. Often I’ll talk to a couple about colors for their home, and one of the two will say they don’t like pink while the other loves the color. So I have found some great ways to introduce it into a home’s decor in a way that makes everyone happy. Here are my best tips for working with pink.

Sleep on It

Bedrooms are the perfect place for pink. The pastel shades are relaxing and have been proven to have a calming effect. So if you want to have a serene place to sleep, pink is the right color to use in this room. That doesn’t mean you have to envelop the space in just this color. I like to use neutrals like sand and white to ground the pink and give it a balanced look. With pink as the primary color, it’s a winning combination.

Accent the Positive

Pink is definitely an uplifting and positive color, and there are so many shades that you can definitely find one that you love. Look for accent pieces that have just a hint of the hue or are a very pale version. Weaving these into a room can add a much-needed brightening effect, as you can see in the seashells below.

Take the Middle Road

If you aren’t afraid of pink, but you also don’t want too much of it in a room, you can always take the middle path and use it as a secondary or accent color. I especially like to do this with upholstered pieces. They aren’t always the focus of the room, but with pink they can still stand out.

Or if you want it to be the focal point, remember that art is a great place to showcase pink. It works especially well in spaces that don’t use upholstery, like bathrooms, mudrooms, or kitchens.
