Where I Find Innovative Design Ideas

I am a lifelong learner and anytime I have an opportunity to expand my product knowledge I will take it! The best part about a deep-dive into new and innovative products is the chance to use them in upcoming client projects. I want my clients to have the most functional and future-forward homes that are gorgeous and that support their lifestyles. So when I had a chance to immerse myself with the Design Hounds “Designing for the Senses” experience in New York, I jumped at the opportunity. Here are the fantastic new designs I found along the way!

FreePower

Our tour started with a beautiful reception and dinner hosted by FreePower, where we learned about new technology allowing us to charge our devices with hidden charging pads on any stone surface. This game-changing idea was launched at the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) in February. It also won the Best of KBIS Best in Show Award. It’s an incredible design with technology embedded right in the stone. And it’s easy to find the charging spot - you just wave your device over the stone and it lights up to show you where to place it for charging. Such an amazing concept.

DOOQ

Our tour then took us to the iconic International Contemporary Furniture Fair, the must-see destination for cutting-edge furnishings. I saw incredible furniture, accessories, rugs, lighting, and more. And I was also able to attend a trend presentation by Grohe. This company is always forward-thinking when it comes to functional and stunning kitchen and bathroom fittings, so I was excited to see what’s coming from them.

MrSteam

Off we went to a relaxing afternoon with MrSteam to learn more about specifying and designing with wellness in mind. How can we design for clients if we’re not practicing wellness in our own lives? The new iSteamX gives you a high-tech experience in a spa-like setting. You can connect the serenity of a steam shower with your favorite playlist or podcast, then select chroma lighting, infuse aromatics, and more. It’s a fantastic sensory sensation that I am definitely recommending to my clients who need serious relaxation.

And we topped the trip off with a full day of hands-on demonstrations by the SKS Appliances team including mozzarella making and being treated to an amazing lunch in the test kitchen! Their incredibly innovative appliances include technologies like built-in sous vide, smart knobs that have dedicated timers, and combination ovens. We were able to enjoy dishes crafted on their newest introductions, including a flex induction cook top to accommodate different sizes and shapes of cookware, and a new Speed Oven that combines the best of a microwave and a convection oven.
