My Top 5 Tips for Outdoor Living

I love to entertain outdoors, but right now our entire patio is being ripped out and replaced, so I have to live vicariously through my clients’ homes. This summer has been a release of sorts - we’re all ready to get out of our homes and into the sun. So creating those gorgeous spaces that allow us to live and entertain outside is more important than ever before - and that’s exactly why I’m creating a backyard oasis for my family. Here are the top 5 tips I’m keeping in mind for our outdoor living.

1. Comfort Is King

No matter what your outdoor space looks like, the most important element is to include comfortable seating. You want to be able to lounge and relax, and to offer your guests a setting that makes them want to stay for a while. For me, that means deep seating, lots of great pillows, and a throw for cool nights.

2. Go High Tech

There are so many all-weather options for entertainment now, so be sure to think about what your family would love to have outside. For some, that could be backyard speakers so they can enjoy their favorite music while sitting outside. For others, it may be a TV for those all-important games or golf tournaments. With streaming systems and WiFi cable, you won’t miss a thing while you’re enjoying fresh air on your deck or patio.

3. Heat Things Up

Of course grills are nothing new for outdoor living, but consider turning things up a notch. Outdoor cooking is all the rage now, with specialty grills, smokers, burners, warming ovens, and more. You can even include a microwave so you can have popcorn with your outdoor movies.

4. Extra Ingredients

It’s easier than you may think to include luxe extras like refrigerators, ice makers, and sinks to your outdoor kitchen. But they add so much to your family’s enjoyment of outdoor spaces. And there’s the convenience of not having your kids trooping in and out whenever they want a drink or snack.

5. Light the Scene

Extend the hours you can spend outside with family and friends by providing atmospheric lighting. Try gorgeous lanterns, solar-powered lamps, or string lights to create a lovely glow. And of course consider citronella candles to keep insects away.

Are your outdoor spaces ready for summer entertaining? If you’re ready to revamp those areas, give me and my team a call! And stay tuned for a look at the progress on my own home’s patio!

All the best,
